This wonderful piece is entitled “Archers.” Created in the year 1895. by Georges Desvallieres (French 1861-1950). Medium – Pastel. This incredible work can be seen at the Musee d’Orsay.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Desvallières loved ancient art and immersed himself in it during a trip to Italy in 1890. Upon his return to France, he began working in the style, combining masculine and intense subjects and exciting color with a dramatic conception of religion, with a deep love of the Greco-Roman. He is known for his academic figurative works, but also did portraits.
