ABOUT THE ARTIST
Merry-Joseph Blondel (25 July 1781 – 12 June 1853) was a successful French historical painter from the Neoclassical school, with strong emphasis and love towards documenting the artistic ideals of Greco-Roman manhood. He was a won the prestigious Prix de Rome in the year 1803. In 1824, he successfully showed at the Paris Salon where he was given the rank of Knight in the order of the French Legion d’Honneur by Charles X of France. He was offered a professorship at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts.
