ABOUT THE ARTIST
In 1854, he went to live and work in the United States of America (USA), where he painted portraits, landscapes, academic male drawings, and Native American culture portraits. While in the USA, most time was spent in NYC, Boston, and Washington D.C. He met models in his travels and the man in the academic painting above, was an American. A dock worker in Boston.
Later in career, he returned to Paris, and he continued his work on portraits and male academic drawings. One of his most famous drawings was of United States Vice President, John C. Breckinridge in 1858. The painting was well received by the politico of the young nation, due to the fact the artist was from France.
