Norman Rockwell: “Secretary’s Thoughts” – United States – 1960

ARTWORK: First published #OnThisDay for the September 17, 1960; cover of The Saturday Evening Post (American entertainment publication), Norman Rockwell had models pose for “Window Washer” by standing on the outside of his Stockbridge studio window. As was often the case, more than one model posed for each subject in the painting. Between the charcoal study and finished painting, the secretary’s hairstyle, city skyline, and safety ropes would all change.

The piece is also known by the title, “Secretary’s Thoughts.” What is she thinking?
