Adolphe Williams Bouguereau: Body of Work (1825-1905)

As we approach the Halloween season, we present for your October pleasure, the beautiful academic works of the famous Bouguereau paintings.


Adolphe Williams Bouguereau (1825-1905), was a famous French painter who born in the Bordeaux region. He studied and trained for art in Bordeaux and later attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

He won many important awards, such as the Prix de Rome in 1850. Bouguereau had a significant influence in the United States and had a huge following of high society collectors. In 1876, he became a member of the Fine Arts Academy. He later married his model, Marie-Nelly Monchablon, and they had five children. However, tuberculosis claimed the lives of several of them, as well as his wife. Later, he remarried Elizabeth Jane Gardner. He died in 1905 in La Rochelle and is buried in the city of Paris.
