LADIES, French academic painter Théodore Géricault, gives us a lovely academic figurative study of the male athlete. Model for this sitting was a day laborer and gardener. He was a well-known French painter and lithographer, whose best-known painting is The Raft of Medusa. He was a pioneer of the French Romantic Movement, which spread to other countries in Europe as well.
We’ll be exploring more of his works and philosophies in the future. He is one of France’s most influential academic artists and had a fond love of capturing both male and female academic figurative.
