ABOUT THE ARTWORK:
LADIES, we present the macho ideal of the ancient muscle man that was Hercules. Hercules is always a classic and those who focus on the male figurative from the 1400s to now, always select him as a template.
Engraving by Gilles Rousselet (17th century). It represents the Hercules slaying the many-headed Lernaean Hydra. Gilles Rousselet, also known as Aegidius Rousselet (1610–1686) was a French burin engraver, print dealer, art teacher and draftsman, who was very active during the Baroque-era.
