ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Alice Neel was an American visual artist who made stunning artforms. Most of her portraits depicted friends, family, lovers, poets, artists, and even strangers. She was fascinated by the American “everyday person.” Her paintings have an expressionistic use of line and color application, psychological acumen, and emotional intensity. Her work depicts women through a strong female gaze, and demonize the male viewpoint of female beauty.
