ARTWORK:

Made 18 months after the AIDS pandemic of 1980s started. Paul Cadmus, although a senior and in a monogamous relationship, saw too many friends and old loves die. He wanted to find meaning and found it through beauty. It was hard to get gay models to pose during these first three years of the pandemic. He didn’t want to do an editorial piece on the pandemic, but wanted to show the life of a man in NYC who may be gay or not, but comfortable in his nudity. Some say the model is Paul Cadmus, other scholars aren’t sure.
