JACQUES-LOUIS DAVID’S iconic painting at the Louvre of Leonidas at Thermopylae (1814), Details/Full. The piece depicts the Spartan King Leonidas prior to the Battle of Thermopylae.

David completed the massive work 395 cm × 531 cm (12.96 ft × 17.42 ft) 15 years after he began, working on it from 1799 to 1803 and again in 1813–1814.

Jacques-Louis David (30 August 1748 – 29 December 1825) was a French painter in the Neoclassical style, considered to be the preeminent painter of the era.
