This is a video essay talking about the phenomenon of “Gay For The Stay”. In MDOC, the joke is that after 3 years it’s not, it’s just good jailing. I talk about two examples of guys I saw who had physical relationships with other men, for the first time, in prison. This is a bit different than gay/sissy prison culture, as those people identified as gay in the world (without a doubt). In this video I’m talking about men who engage in physical relationships (youtube is weird with words, sorry) with other men, only when incarcerated. This is much more common at higher security levels, where not only is there more privacy, but people are doing much longer amounts of time. I’ve also heard that certain state systems are more known for “PG” or “prison gay”. Where I was at in MDOC, at a low security level 1, there was clearly a lot that was going on behind closed doors (or, curtains). Occasionally word would get out, and someone would be exposed.
