ABOUT THE ARTWORK:

French artist and writer; Arthur Rimbaud playing the Abyssine harp during his time and travels to Harar, Ethiopia. He went when he was 36 years old. Worked as tutor in French to the Royal Imperial Family and was close friends with several of the throne’s heirs.

The artwork was done by an unknown Ethiopian local artist. Ethiopia has a strong figurative movement, due to the Christian artwork done for their churches. For those into trivia, Ethiopia was the world’s first Christian nation, before the Europeans fully accepted and legalized the faith. Drawing is dated 1891 by the poet’s sister (handwriting). This outstanding drawing was recently in a Parisian bookstore. Some say she did the drawing, but that fact isn’t agreed upon by all art scholars.
