100 Years of Men in Love: The Accidental Collection

A wonderful film that gives everyone a history lesson concerning the “ups and downs” of two men who are romantically in love with each other.

A good documentary film about a couple who have been collecting pictures of male couples going back to the early days of photography until the early 1950s from around the world, but mainly the US.

These photographs were from a time when we didn’t exist, except in the shadows on the fringe. When to love another man was punishable by imprisonment or worse.

Most of the pictures shown in this docu are literally a snapshot into the lives of those gone before us. There’s rarely any context or back story, just lingering looks, a glint in the eyes and a surreptitious gesture.

So much of our history is undocumented. Sure, we can speculate as to which king/queen, president or famous person may or may not have been gay or bi, but it’s not like they teach that in school.

These shots were of just ordinary men, and if nothing more, they are saying to us from decades ago “We’ve always been here”.

Our history is important, and not just for one month a year.
